Voyager 2 Got “Hacked”. Now Sends Messages in an “Unknown” Language

The Voyager 2 is a space probe launched by NASA for deep space exploration and research. It is well known for being one of the humanity’s furthest objects in space.

The space probe is classified as an unmanned craft and has been on a journey of such legendary proportions that possibly no current existing human on Earth would embark on such a journey during their lifetime.

DID ALIENS ALTER THE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM ON THE VOYAGER 2?

Voyager 2 began its ascent to space on the fateful day of August 20, 1977. It was built and launched with the goal of collecting data and information on fringe planets to assist scientists in both research and study of the cosmos.

Along the way, it was assigned a variety of missions, and successfully completed them.

A decision was made to extend a new set of missions for the spacecraft, that of exploring and studying the furthest edges of the solar system. From the day of its virgin flight to space, it has already been dutifully fulfilling its tasks for around 40 years.

Voyager 2 is currently estimated to be at a distance of around 112.5 Astronomical Units away from the Sun, and scientists estimate that it will probably reach interstellar space around 2019 and 2020.

MYSTERIOUS EVENTS

In 2010, the Voyager 2 had officially reached the out edge of the solar system.

Voyager 2 Position

This was the point when something strange and mysterious happened. Someone or something had altered the spacecraft’s communication system.

Checking the entire spacecraft through monitoring systems, the Voyager 2 team could not find anything else wrong with the spacecraft, except for the particular part of the communication system.

After careful diagnosis, it was revealed that one digit in the binary code that made up the command system of the spacecraft had been altered.

The change was relatively simple, a “0” had been changed to “1”. (Binary codes are a series of characters made up of only “1”s and “0”s which are the basic building blocks of modern software).

This could mean that some heretofore unknown party or entity had possibly interacted with the computer systems aboard the spacecraft.

Could a glitch be at fault here? Or could there be a more sinister entity and/or motivation for the alteration of the communication system?

POSSIBLE EXPLANATIONS AND ISSUES

Voyager 2 contains within it a message from Earth.

A theory abounds that as it travels toward the deeper reaches of space, there could be a possibility of an intelligent extraterrestrial civilization coming into contact with the probe and with some study, understand the content of the message.

The flipping of the binary code could be an intelligent response to the message from aliens. German ufologist Hartwig Hausdorf has affirmed this theory and during an interview with Bild. De, added, “It seems almost as if someone had reprogrammed or hijacked the probe – thus perhaps we do not yet know the whole truth…”

Scientists have since resolved the alteration within a few days by resetting the Voyager 2 computer. But there seems to be another issue.

Official reports from NASA state: “…One flip of a bit in the memory of an on-board computer appears to have caused the change in the science data pattern returning from Voyager 2.

A value in a single memory location was changed from a 0 to a 1.” This has caused the changed data patterns returned to Earth to be currently un-decodable by NASA scientists.

However, outside of explanations using extraterrestrial life forms, data flips often have other causes too. What makes this a more mysterious case was that only one component of the Voyager 2 was altered with the rest of the systems remaining unchanged.

Ed Stone, a scientist for the Voyager project at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, chipped in an explanation: “This is volatile memory just like in your computer where you boot up.

And so occasionally a cosmic ray particle can cause one of the bits to flip, or it can actually have a failure in one of the bits.”
